Abstract

753,478. Hay-making. BAMFORDS, Ltd. May 10, 1954 [May 8, 1953], No. 12835/53. Class 6 (3). In a side delivery rake comprising a plurality of tine-carrying reels 11 arranged obliquely to the direction of travel of the machine and at such an angle thereto that the reels are rotated by the engagement of the tines with the ground, the reels are arranged with their planes at an inclination to the vertical so that they are mounted for rotation about axes which are inclined to the horizontal. As shown, each reel is mounted on a cranked axle 12 and the reels may be coupled as described in Specification 712,992. The machine may be converted to a swath turner by attaching the three rearmost reels to a supplementary frame 14, as shown in dotted lines. Alternatively the frame 10 may be constructed in two parts in such a manner that the rear portion of the frame carrying three reels may be swung into a forward position spaced laterally from the front portion of the frame. The machine is provided with a fixed wheel 15 and two front castor wheels, provision being made for adjusting the wheel 15 about a vertical axis and for fixing the wheel in the adjusted position. The front end of the machine is arranged to be coupled to a tractor by means of draw-bars 20, 21. The reels may be of dished configuration so that the centre portions of the reels are flat and their peripheral portions are curved forwardly in the direction of movement of the machine.
