Abstract

752,873. Heat insulation. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 25, 1952 [Sept. 25, 1951], No. 24059/52. Class 64(2). An insulating structure is formed by placing a batt 8 of compressible glass fibre, particularly of fibre as described in Specification 715,174, between walls 2, 3, e.g. of metal, together with a flexible baffle 11 serving to prevent glass fibres and shot from the batt getting into the area where the edges 4, 5 of the walls are sealed together before the air is evacuated from the structure. The baffle 11 may be of angle section stainless or silicon steel and may either be secured to one wall 3 or loosely positioned. A curved section 7 of the other wall 2 turns the top edge of the baffle in towards the batt 8 when the walls are pressed together for welding.
