Abstract
752,671. Electroplating. CELLOPHANE INVESTMENT CO., Ltd. March 4, 1954 [May 28, 1953], No. 6402/54. Class 41. An apparatus for chromium-plating articles, e.g. cylinders 4, comprises a cylindrical tank 1 of pure or antimonial lead adapted to contain an electrolyte, a support 5 for mounting a cylinder 4 in the tank 1, and means secured to the tank 1 and to the support 5 adapted to connect them respectively to the positive and negative terminals of a source of direct current. The cylinders 4 are suspended by a metal support 5 from an insulating cover 6 in the tank 1 which is located by guides 16 in a bath 13 through which water at a suitable temperature is circulated. The tank 1 may be heated, e.g. by an electric jacket round the lower part thereof, and air may be passed above the level of the electrolyte from an inlet 10 to an outlet 9 for cooling purposes. A removable disc 3, e.g. of glass, may cover the base 2 of the tank 1 to prevent the base 2 acting as an anode. A thermometer or thermostat may be inserted at 12, and the bath 13 may be mounted on a stand through opposed trunnions which permit the rocking and emptying of the apparatus. When short cylinders are being plated, a hollow, insulating sleeve may be introduced into the tank 1 to mask the lower part thereof.
