Abstract

752,459. Screw-and-nut gearing. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Dec. 6 1954 [Jan. 14, 1954], No. 1142/54. Class 80(3) In order to eliminate backlash between a lead screw 2 and a fixed part 1, the screw 2 is engaged by threaded portions 4, 5 at opposite ends of a cylindrical nut member 3 which is clamped by nuts .11, 12 in the part 1, the member 3 having a thin-walled central portion 13 which is weakened by three staggered pairs of partcircumferential slots so that by tightening the nuts 11, 12 the member 3 may be stretched and the distance between the portions 4, 5 thus increased to take up any backlash. In a modification only one clamping nut is provided, the other end of the member 3 having a flange abutting the part 1. The Acme thread shown may be replaced by a square thread.
