751,429. Nuclear reactors. STICHTING VOOR FUNDAMENTEEL ONDERZOEK DER MATERIE. June 11, 1954 [June 12, 1953], No. 17265/54. Class 39 (4). A nuclear reactor for producing thermal energy and employing heavy water as a moderator is enclosed in a pressure-proof steel vessel. Nuclear fuel is supplied as a suspension in heavy water and a second circuit may be added to carry a separate supply of heavy water to act as a moderator. A sintered BeO layer is used as a partition wall. Electric or pneumatic pressure controls maintain the pressure difference across the walls within limits. Control is effected by varying the level of the heavy water or by the insertion of neutron absorbing rods.
