Abstract
The invention comprises pigment dyes of the formula:-<FORM:0750969/IV(c)/1> wherein R is unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, aralkyl, or aryl and X is the radical of an aromatic carboxylic acid. R is preferably alkyl of 1-8 carbon atoms, phenyl, or benzyl, and X is preferably benzoyl. They are prepared from the 1.4-diamino bodies by monoacylation of by diacylation followed by partial saponification, with concentrated sulphuric acid, followed by working up into pigment dyestuff form by the usual mechanical process if desired, with incorporation of a dispersing agent. In examples, (1) 1, 4-diamino-2-ethoxy-anthraquinone is diacylated with p-toluic acid chloride in chlorobenzene, and the product partially saponified with sulphuric acid: (2) 1, 4-diamino-2-methoxy anthraquinone is similarly diacylated with benzoyl chloride and partially saponified; (3) 1, 4-diamino-2-methoxy-anthraquinone is monoacylated with benzoyl chloride; (4) 1, 4-diamino-2-butoxy-anthraquinone is diacylated with m- or o-chlorbenzoyl chloride, followed by partial saponification with sulphuric acid; (5) 1, 4-diamino-2-methoxy anthraquinone is diacylated with pyrene-3-carboxylic acid chloride, followed by partial saponification with sulphuric acid. A list of additional starting materials is given. Examples are given of the use of the products in colouring paper, in colouring regenerated cellulose fibres in the spinning mass, and in printing textiles.
