Abstract

750,529. Treating yarns. ADSHEAD & GEESON, Ltd., and GEESON, T. Nov. 30, 1954 [Dec. 31, 1953], No. 36297/53. Addition to 683,075. Class 120 (3). [Also in Group VIII] Yarns made from staple fibre or continuous filament of an acrylic resin such as polyacrylonitrile, or mixtures thereof with other synthetic or natural fibres, is stabilized and set by passing it continuously or intermittently through steam, which may be superheated, then through hot, preferably dry, air to remove moisture therefrom, and then over and in contact with a surface heated to a temperature of 300‹ F. or higher, but below the melting point of the acrylic resin fibre or filament, whereby the yarn shrinks a predetermined amount and is stabilized in such condition. The treatment may be effected, before or after dyeing or other wet treatment, on apparatus as described in the parent Specification modified as described in Specification 692,637.
