750,466. Stuffing-box packing. ZAGORSKI, J. March 24, 1954, No. 8609/54. Class 122(5) Stuffing-box packing material is made by impregnating vegetable fibres, preferably cotton, or synthetic fibres with a liquid containing a small amount of fatty matter and a solvent therefor, then pressing and drying the material, and then loosening it and mixing it with an inorganic lubricant. The fibres are preferably treated with formaldehyde liquid and dried before being impregnated with the liquid which may contain tallow, lubricating oil, ozokerite, stearin, glycerine, or similar fatty matter or mixtures thereof, and benzine, alcohol or other hydrocarbon compound as a solvent. The dried and loosened fibres are finally mixed in a mixing drum with an inorganic lubricant such as graphite, talc powder, steatite or shale oil or mixtures thereof. The material may be formed into cord packing by filling thin textile hoses with it.
