Abstract

<PICT:0749376/IV(c)/1> <PICT:0749376/IV(c)/2> <PICT:0749376/IV(c)/3> <PICT:0749376/IV(c)/4> <PICT:0749376/IV(c)/5> <PICT:0749376/IV(c)/6> Apparatus for loading and unloading hanks of yarn relative to dyeing vats includes a carrier having locating notches adapted to fit on to a set of yarn supporting vats and means for passing below the ends of the rods to hold them in place when picked up by the carrier. In Figs. 1, 2, the hanks of yarn 10 are suspended from rods 11 which are first assembled in a supporting framework 12, 13 the sides of which have round recesses 14 cut into the upper edges into which the ends of the rods 11 are fitted. To effect a loading operation the underside of the vat lid 20 has a substructure comprising plates 21 which are provided with notches 22 on their bottom edges so that when the lid is lowered the ends of the rods 11 engage in notches 22 and are held in place by bars 25 which are notched at 26 so that the locking is effected by a small endwise movement of the bars. Endwise movement of the rods 11 is prevented by flanges 30 which also act as guides for the bars 25. The rods may then be lowered into the dyeing vat and treatment effected after which unloading is effected by reversal of the loading process. In a modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the plates 21 are providing with lugs 31, 32 into which the rods 11 pass, a bar 33 then sliding into the lugs to hold the rods in position. In a further modification, Figs. 5 and 6, the plates 21 have stiffened pieces 35 to which angle-section rails 36 are hinged and which can be attached to plates 21 to prevent the rods 11 from falling out.
