Abstract

749,166. Drilling long holes. SOC. DES FORGES & ATELIERS DU CREUSOT. July 27, 1954 [July 28, 1953], No. 21968/54. Class 83 (3). A long-hole horizontal fullbore, or core-, drilling machine comprises a hollow toolholder bar 4 which is fed into a rotating workpiece 1, the swarf being forced back by fluid pressure into a rotating tube 17 coaxial with the bar. The tube 17 is rotated oppositely to the tool-bar 4 by worm gearing 18 which may be driven by a motor 7 which feeds the drill-carriage 5. Fluid is supplied through an orifice 11 in a fixed support 9 and passes through passages 12, 14 in the tool-head 1, 3 past the core 15, and through the tube 17 to a container 16 which moves with the carriage 5.
