Abstract
748,191. Catamenial appliances. LILIA, Ltd. Aug. 24, 1954 [Sept. 2, 1953], No. 24252/53. Class 81(2). The marginal portions along the longitudinal edges of a non-woven textile wrapper of a sanitary towel are coated with a bonding adhesive which is preferably water-insoluble. In the preferred form the rectangular wrapper is coated, by a printing process, with a resinous substance, such as polyvinyl acetate, over the marginal portions ABDC and EFHG. When the wrapper is folded round the pad these portions overlap and provide an impervious outer surface; while, at the same time, the tensile strength of the wrapper is appreciably increased. The strength of the securing tabs may be further increased by extending the bonding adhesive over the ends of the middle portion up to the ends 19, 20 of the pad. The central portion, which covers the upper face of the pad when in use, may further be coated with spaced lines of adhesive in order to improve the tensile strength without appreciably decreasing its permeability.
