Abstract
747,640. Coated and laminated fabrics. KENYON & SONS, Ltd., W., and KENYON, W. A. Oct. 26, 1954 [Sept. 19, 1953], No. 25903/53. Class 140. [Also in Group IX] A pile fabric is made by securing tufts in a woven base by a synthetic polyamide which is fused. In one embodiment, the fabric has a nylon pile and a hemp weft impregnated with a low melting-point nylon in alcohol. In a second embodiment, the back of the fabric is painted with a solution of nylon in alcohol. In a third embodiment a Wilton carpet, from which the warp filler threads have been omitted, has a sheet of nylon placed on its reverse side and a backing sheet placed on the nylon. The backing may be of cotton, hemp, jute or nylon. In each embodiment, heating and subsequent cooling fuses the nylon.
