Abstract
747,587. Alternators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 3, 1954 (Dec. 4,1953], No. 33815/53. Class 35. In order to assist the residual magnetism of an alternator having an exciting winding fed from the A.C. output of the machine through rectifiers, permanent magnets are located in the magnetic circuit of the machine. Fig. 2 shows part of an alternator salient pole rotor carrying an exciting winding 13 which is held in place by end members 14, 15. Bar permanent magnets 16, 17 are mounted at each end of the pole between the end laminations and the adjacent end member 14 or 15, and these magnets are located in radial slots of spider members 18, 19. One such spider 18 together with its magnets 16 is shown in Fig. 3. The polarity of the magnets 16, 17 corresponds with that of the associated poles when the latter are excited by their exciting winding 16. Because the spider slots accommodating the magnets are open at their periphery damper bars 21 are so positioned that the magnets are not displaced by centrifugal force.
