Abstract
747,058. Rotary compressors. WORTHINGTON CORPORATION. March 19, 1954 [April 21, 1953], No. 8056/54. Class 110(2) A two stage rotary compressor with outwardly sliding vanes preferably radially, has the low pressure rotor 5 disposed above and parallel to the high pressure rotor 13 which it drives through gears 15, 16 which may be changed to alter the relative speeds of the rotors 5, 13 and the discharge pressure. The rotor 13 drives a pump 21, preferably a gear pump, which supplies a large quantity of liquid, preferably oil, to the two cylinders to act as a lubricant and a coolant. The compressor is self draining under the action of gravity. Air is drawn into the low pressure cylinder through ports 9 and is discharged through ports 7 (see Fig. 3, not shown) into the chamber 19 and then into the high pressure cylinder through ports 20 and is discharged through ports 26 together with a quantity of oil which is separated from the air and returned to a reservoir (not shown) which supplies the gear pump 21. The reservoir may be so placed that it floods the gear pump 21 when the compressor stops.
