Abstract
746,122. Girders; walls. WOOLAWAY CONSTRUCTIONS, Ltd. July 30, 1954 [Feb. 12, 1954], No. 4188/54. Class 20(4). In concrete walls for buildings comprising vertical units such as stanchions, corner posts, &c., and horizontal units such as foundations, beams, transoms and lintels forming a framework into which slabs or panels are fitted, a transom 1 is longitudinally grooved along its upper face, the groove having downwardly inclined drain holes 10 extending to an exterior or underface at or near the lower exterior edge of the transom. Short tongues 7 are cast at each end to serve as locators for fitting into the base of stanchions. The upper part 17 of a joist hanger comprising a Z-shaped member with side webs 16 is accommodated in a recess 19 in the inner ledge of the transom groove. Transoms are connected end to end by a halved joint which comprises slopes 20, 23 and intervening vertical and horizontal faces 21, 22, the halves being dowelled together through holes 25. A mastic seal may be applied, e.g. to edging surface 26. Specification 595,849 is referred to.
