Abstract
746,117. Honeycomb paper; laminated materials. DALO, M. Feb. 9, 1954 [Feb. 9, 1953], No. 3778/54. Classes 96 and 140. [Also in Group XXIII] A machine for making cellular or honeycomb networks from laminµ 3 of thin wood, cardboard or like material fed from reels 4 comprises an adhesive-applying device 5, a comb 6 for preliminarily shaping the laminµ, caps 8 and heated tubes 11 which are consecutively raised to separate and bend the laminµ, jacks 15 for applying lateral pressure to unite the network and belts 17 for removing the continuous network lengths. The comb 6 comprises a number of blades 18 on a plate 19 rocked about an axis 20 and swellings 21 at the ends of the blades roughly shape the laminae to allow easier penetration of the caps 8. The caps 8, which are resilient and longitudinally divided to provide two wings 24, are raised by a frame 12 and jacks 13 to penetrate between the laminµ and then the tubes 11, which have pointed ends and resilient tails and are heated by internal electric resistances, are raised by a frame 9 and jacks 10 to bend the laminae. Finally, the jacks 15 compress the network laterally to such an extent that the thickness of the laminµ at the points of adhesion is reduced by from 5 to 30 per cent. The caps 8 and tubes 11 are guided by one or more gratings 14 which have transverse elements 27 of corrugated resilient steel with apertures 29 in which lugs 30 of longitudinal elements 28 are fitted and under the pressure of the jacks the transverse elements deform in concertina fashion while the longitudinal elements slide on bars 32. The resilience of the caps 8 and tubes 11 allows them to follow the deformation of the grating but, in a modification, the caps slide on guides at their lower ends and the tubes are attached by resilient plates to the frame 9.
