Classes 108 (1) and 108 (2). A trailer has a forward pair of wheels 5, Fig. 4, mounted on an axle 5a, which is to the rear of a king-pin 4 so that the tractor supports a proportion of the trailer load, which proportion is determined by the position of the axle 5a relative to the pin 4. The position of the axle 5a may be altered by moving a transverse bar 14, having a housing for the pin 4, along the side frames 11 and locking the bar in position by means co-operating with one of a series of holes 13. In a modification, Figs. 9, 11 and 12, the rear wheels may be pivoted in pairs on each side, the wheels 22a, 22b, for example, being journalled at oppositely cranked ends 20a, 20b of a swing tree 20 pivoted by a bolt 19 through a bearing 18 to a support 17. By this arrangement it is stated that when one wheel of the pair enters a rut, only half the normal variation in axle level takes place which reduces the twisting couple on the chassis.
