Abstract

744,536. Door fastenings. WILMOTBREEDEN,Ltd. May 7,1954 [Feb. 17, 1953], No. 4391/53. Class 44. [Also in Groups X and XXXI] A vehicle door fastening comprises a fluidoperable distensible means, e.g. a tube e adapted to be mounted around the whole of the door b or its seating d or to extend along one or more of the edges of the door or seating and to interlock the door and the adjacent portions of the door seating and means operable by relative movement of the door and its seating for supplying fluid to the distensible means. The door and seating both have recesses a, c to accommodate the tube e, and the movable side of the tube is reinforced with a covering of thin strip steel. The tube is distended by air, oil or other fluid. As shown, the air is supplied by means comprising a cylinder g mounted on the door and a piston i connected by linkage j to the door seating so as to be movable in the cylinder. Valves (not shown) are provided for admitting air to the cylinder and releasing it from the tube when the door is to be opened. When liquid is used a reservoir is provided. The piston can be operated by a cam instead of linkage or a bellows arrangement can replace the cylinder and piston.
