Abstract

744,173. Bag holders. MEDWAY PAPER SACKS, Ltd. June 3, 1954 [March 5, 1953], No. 6174/53. Class 58. [Also in Group XVII] In a bag-filling machine (see Group XVII), a filling-spout 3 of oval cross-section is secured to a hopper 1 by a plate 2 which carries brackets 5 supporting clamps arranged to engage the gussets or side edges of a bag, each clamp comprising a fixed jaw 6, having an axially-adjustable, spring-loaded gripper pad 7, and a movable jaw 16, having an adjustable gripper pad 17, mounted on one arm of a bell-crank lever 15 pivoted to the associated bracket 5 at 14. The other arm of the lever is coupled by a link 19 to an operating solenoid 21, the energization of which is controlled by a switch 22 actuated by a lever 23 or 24 which is arranged to be engaged by the upper edge of the bag as it is applied manually to the spout. Each gusset of the bag is inserted in a guide slot 13 between bifurcated plates 11 interconnected by rollers 12. Specification 665,027 is referred to.
