Abstract

743,905. Spinning yarns; stop-motions. BREUNING, E. Nov. 18, 1952 [Nov. 19, 1951], No. 29129/52. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). In apparatus for supervising or controlling the continuity of textile production processes, e.g. operable in response to breaking or tearing of a sliver or breakage of a thread, an electric circuit is closed by the textile material itself, e.g. cotton or wool sliver, slubbing, or yarn to which no conductivity-increasing medium such as a conducting liquid is applied. In the operation of the device shown in Fig. 1, slubbing 1, departing from its normal path between earthed drafting rollers 2 and 3 and a spindle 4, consequent on breakage, contacts a conducting body 5 mounted on insulators 6, thus establishing electrical connection between rollers 2 and 3 and a lead 7 to produce an indication on an instrument 10 in an observation and control instrument 8 which is earthed at 11: the sensitivity of the device is increased by provision of a conducting earthed body 12 which shortens the length of slubbing through which current flows. As shown in Fig. 2, the lead 7 is connected with an insulated fixed body 16 opposite which is a conductor 17 movable around a mounting 18 and carrying a contact 19 lying opposite a fixed adjustable contact 20. When a voltage drop occurs across a high ohmic resistance 14 due to current flow therethrough, the conductor 17 is attracted electrostatically by the body 16 so that 19 and 20 contact: a source of potential 21 such as a battery or accumulator connected to the conductor 17 through the mounting 18 and to an indicator or control device 22 produces an operating current in the latter. The resistance of 14 is at least equal to the input resistance of the device 22. The electrode 5 may be hollow and provided with apertures through which particles of material may be removed by pressure or suction. The indicating and/or control means may comprise an electronic tube with high input resistance or conventional bridge circuit arrangements.
