Abstract

743,548. Door-operating appliances. NEWMAN & SONS, Ltd., W., and DANGERFIELD, H. June 11, 1954 [May 30, 1953], No. 15102/53. Class 65 (1). In a spring closer of the floor type with a fluid cheek the check is arranged to cushion the opening of the door. In the double-acting arrangement shown the check comprises a plunger 20 pivoted at 21 and a cylinder 18 slidable on the plunger between rollers 29 on the base of the housing 1 and provided with a roller 22 engaging a cam 12 on the door pivot 4; the plunger contains a ball valve permitting passage of fluid when the cylinder is moved away from the pivot 21 by a spring 23 surrounding the plunger, and the cylinder is provided with a regulatable passage through which the fluid is forced when the cylinder is pressed towards the pivot 21 by the cam. The cam has a point 11 by which the check is actuated as the door approaches the closed position from either direction, and also has lobes 13 one or other of which actuates the check when the door approaches an open position; opening is limited by contact of the point 11 with one or other of a pair of stops 26 in the housing 1. The closing springs 2 surround rods 16 which slide in rocking shoes 17 and are compressed, when the door is opened, by one or other of a pair of pins 6, forming part of the door pivot, acting on a block 15 which carries the rods 16.
