Abstract

1316708 Door closer with check device; concealed hinge M K KOIVUSALO 7 Oct 1971 [9 Oct 1970] 46581/71 Headings E2F and E2M [Also in Division F2] A door closer mounted parallel to the hinge axis has a first cylinder 6.slidable on a piston 13 fixed in a second cylinder 7 and is acted on by a spring 9. The end of the cylinder 6 remote from the spring carries a rotatable member 1 acting on a cam track 15 of a part circular cam member 2 with its centre of curvature on the hinge axis and the cam has recesses 3, 5 corresponding to the door open and closed positions. The working chambers 32, 33 are filled with a pneumatic or hydraulic fluid and are interconnected by a throttle valve 42, Fig. 14. The cam may have a projection 16 immediately before the recess 5 either in the-form of an adjustable plate 34 or a spring- loaded rocker arm, Fig. 11 (not shown). The cylinder 6 may have a second roller engaging the underside of the cam member 2 and the cam may also be slidably engaged in a groove in a downward extension of the cylinder 6, Figs. 3-5 (not shown). The cam may be pivoted at 17. The position of the piston 13 may be adjustable. A concealed hinge may be used in combination with the device: as shown, a first hinge plate 22 carrying a cam member 2 in a recess in the door frame 19 is pivoted to a U-shaped second hinge plate 25 carrying a door closer 23 acting on the cam 2. The second plate 25 may be attached directly to the door 20 or, as shown, pivoted to another hinge plate 22 in the door carrying a second cam and door closer. The hinge plates 22 have apertures to permit the door closers 23 to pass through an opening or closing the door.
