Abstract
741,819. Trigger mechanisms for firearms. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd. Aug. 26, 1953 [Aug. 26, 1952], No. 21373/52. Class 119 In a, Martini-type action firearm with a pivoted breech block 27 Fig. 1 in which the firing pin 23 is mounted and held in the cocked position by a tumbler 2, the trigger bent 8 engaged by the trigger sear 7 is relieved of the pressure exerted by the firing pin spring 24 acting through the tumbler 2 by a pivoted spring - loaded sear member 3 which engages the tumbler 2, the sear member 3, on firing, being moved out of engagement with the tumbler 2 by a pivoted spring - loaded member 10 carrying. the trigger bent 8. The tumbler sear 3a and the trigger sear 7 are maintained in engagement respectively with the tumbler bent 2a and trigger bent 8 by a torsion spring 11 common to sear member 3 and trigger bent member 10. A light coil spring 16 adjustable by a screw 19 Fig. 4 is disposed within the trigger guard 17 and assists in maintaining the sear 7 and trigger bent 8 in engagement. A screw 21 also located in the triggerguard serves as a trigger stop. By a very small movement of the trigger 5, the sear 7 releases the trigger bent member 10, which, under the action of the spring 11, swings clockwise and its arm 9 strikes the extending arm 22 of the sear member 3 to cause the sear 3a to release the tumbler 2 and firing pin 23. On re-cocking by the cocking lever 33, the lower face 25 of the downwardly moving breech block 27 strikes the arm 29 of the trigger bent member 10 moving it anti-clockwise against the spring 11 and permitting re-engagement of the trigger sear 7. Simultaneously a cam face 30 on the end of the tumbler 2 moves the sear member 3 in an anti-clockwise direction and permits re-engagement of the tumbler therewith.
