Abstract
A composition for enhancing plant growth, for application to seeds, grain, tubers, bulbs, roots of a seedling or plant to be transplanted, cuttings or shoots prior to sowing, is composed of at least 9 "macro" trace elements and at least 4 "integrating" trace elements together with at least some optional trace activators dispersed in a finely divided form on a carrier in specific proportions defined in the specification. The "macro" trace elements are Ca, Cl, Mn, K, S, B, Cu, Na, N, Mg, Fe, Zn, P, Si. The "integrating" trace elements are I, Cd, Ba, Sr, V, Co, F, Mo, Li, Au. The optional trace activators are the remaining elements in the Periodic table. The composition preferably comprises at least 57 trace elements and suitably 70 or more. Suitable carriers are calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, lime or magnesium oxide; adhesives may also be incorporated in the composition, such as finely divided talcum or silica gel or silica sol and up to 10 per cent of natural resins may also be included. Optional ingredients are yeast containing natural or added bios factors, antibiotics such as terramycin, cultures of microorganisms capable of assimilating nitrogen, dextrines, glucose, acid phosphates or sulphates, and soil improvers of the high polymers type. The compositions may be applied as a dust for example in the proportion of 1/8 to 1 lb. of the compositions per 10-200 lbs. of seed, which may be previously made damp, or an aqueous suspension or solution of the preparation may be made and the roots of plants and cuttings may be immersed therein. Alternatively, a suspension or a solution of the compositions may be poured into furrows or holes near to established shrubs and trees or the foliage may be sprayed with solutions or dispersions of the composition.
