Abstract

The invention comprises the compound a -(2,4,6-triiodophenoxy) butyric acid and its preparation by the process of condensing 2,4,6-triodophenol with an a -halogenated butyric acid ester in the presence of an alkali metal alcoholate and the subsequent saponification of the a - (2,4,6 - triiodophenoxy) butyric acid ester thus obtained. In an example, 2,4,6-triiodophenol and ethyl a -bromobutyrate are reacted in the presence of sodium ethoxide and the product is saponified by heating with alcoholic sodium hydroxide.
