Abstract

739,689. Washing and drying machines. MASCHINENFABRIK P. PFENNINGSBERG GES. May 3, 1954, No. 12818/54. Class 138 (2). Means for discharging water from a washing machine having a drum 2 which can be rotated at washing speed or at a higher speed for spin drying, comprises a syphon 7 disposed in the water discharge pipe of the machine, the top of the syphon being above the normal water level in the machine. Undesired emptying of the machine is prevented by means of a flap valve 10 kept open during the washing process and closed by hand or automatically when spin drying commences. The valve 10 may be operated by an electromagnet 13 controlled by an automatic switch. Plates 14 arranged at an angle behind the outlet 4 improve the discharge effect from the container 1.
