Abstract
739,580. Split-phase induction motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. July 5, 1954 [July 10, 1953], No. 19637/54. Class 35. A split-phase, pole-change motor has two-pole main windings 9, 10 and four-pole main windings 4, 5, 6, 7 which may be used alternatively, while the starting windings 12, 13 are shortchorded, e.g. to 2/3 pole-pitch, so that they may be connected electrically in series and in magnetic addition to produce a two-pole quadrature starting flux, or connected electrically in parallel and in magnetic opposition so that the consequent poles formed between the windings produce an effective four-pole starting flux. The starting winding may be connected in series with a condenser or may be resistive.
