Abstract

739,054. Printing. STRACHAN & HENSHAW, Ltd. March 17, 1953 [March 17, 1952], No. 6864/52. Addition to 711,346. Class 100 (2). Inking-apparatus.-In inking means according to the parent Specification, the ink is supplied to one of the pair of contacting parallel contra-rotatable rolls 11, 12 and is then metered to obtain an even distribution before it reaches the nip 18 between the rolls, by an adjustable doctor 13 forming an ink trough 14 from the open ends of which surplus ink flows out freely. As shown, this surplus ink is led to the side of the shoot 20 remote from the rolls 11, 12 by a lip 21 above the scraper lip 22 (numbered 23 in the parent case) ; the doctor mounting 16 has an extension 17 to form a non-splash enclosure into which the ink is fed through a pipe 15 ; the roll 11 contacting the forme cylinder is of knurled, engraved, &c. metal, and the roll 12 is softer, e.g. of smooth hard rubber. The ink supply and doctor may alternatively be applied to the roll 11.
