Abstract

738,493. Rollers. SCOWEN, C. L., and PATENT TEXTILE ROLLERS (1923), Ltd. June 12, 1953 [June 12, 1952], No. 14802/52. Class 120(2). [Also in Group XIII] A drafting roller of the type built up of component parts comprises a shaft 18, a pair of end plates 1 fixed on the shaft and spaced apart by shoulders on the shaft and having spigots adapted to fit into the bore of a roller sleeve 9 having a rubber tyre 11 on its periphery, and bolts 6 or like devices for clamping the end plates together to cause said sleeve to be gripped for rotation with the shaft. The side plates 1 have a central boss with a hole 3 and an outer peripheral portion 4 connected to the boss by six spokes 2. Holes 5 are provided in the outer portion 4 to take suitable securing bolts 6. Tapped holes 7 are also provided to receive retaining screws 8. The sleeves 9 consist of a metal ring to the periphery of which is attached a rubber ring 11 and are supported by L-section recesses 12 in the side plates 1 and similar recesses 13 in a central ring 14. This central ring is also provided with tapped holes 17 to receive the securing bolts 6. Wider rollers may be made by incorporating further central rings and sleeves.
