Abstract
738,303. Soot doors. GILBERT, R. L., and HOBSON, L. J. Nov. 20, 1953 [Nov. 20, 1952], No. 29383/52. Class 25. A soot door of the kind comprising a frame for insertion in a wall of a building opposite a flue to provide an opening and a cover detachably connected to the frame over the opening wherein the cover is so shaped that it can be moved into the flue to close it or completely removed from the frame. A soot door comprises a frame 10, an inner cover 16 and an outer cover 25, which are clamped together by bolts 22 and wing nuts 28. Lugs 18, projections 20 and ears 19 on the inner cover are so arranged that the cover may be lifted to disengage the lugs 18 from a part 11 projecting from the frame, and tilted so that it closes the flue 32 and slopes downwardly from the inner face of the flue to the frame, where it is held by a lip 14. In a modification, the inner cover is slidable in horizontal or inclined guides formed in the walls of the frame so as to close the flue.
