Abstract
737,933. Comminuting apparatus. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. Dec. 11, 1952 [Dec. 22, 1951], No. 31391/52. Class 59. [Also in Group XXVI] A pump is provided from which the liquid pumped passes to an outlet in a paring or comminuting device projecting into the liquid, the device having lugs which project from the periphery. The pump has a casing 1 in which is rotatably mounted a shaft carrying a housing 4 to which a cover 5 is secured by a locking- ring 6. Fish liver pulp enters the housing 4 through a channel 8 in the comminuting device mounted coaxially with the housing. From this channel the pulp is fed by an annular flange 9 towards the periphery of the housing, where it forms an annular layer, which is entrained in the rotation by vanes 10 projecting from the inner surface of the housing. As the housing rotates the pulp is pared by the member 7 and forced through channels 11 in the member 7 and thence through a collecting channel 12 to a discharge pipe 13. To lessen wear, the comminuting device is provided with projecting lugs 14, which may be of tungsten carbide or similar hard materials. Alternatively the lugs may be provided with a coating of material resistant to wear such as synthetic resin or rubber. In a modification for low-pressure work, the channels in the device 7 are wide and separated only by narrow partitions.
