Abstract
737,594. Photographic flash lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., HAWKINS, F. S., and RYDE, J. W. March 16, 1954 [Feb. 16,1953],No.4275/53. Class 9(2). A glass envelope 1, Fig. 1, contains four glass tubes 2 each containing a charge 3 of combustible material and held by a mica disc 4 against glass wool plugs 5. Radial vanes 6 separating the plugs 5 may be of sheet aluminium and are secured to the envelope by lacquer which is also used between the disc 4 and the tubes 2 to seal the compartments. A wire ring 7 supporting the disc is spot-welded to two wires 8 sealed into a glass tube 10 sealing the lower end of the envelope. The charge 3 is a mixture of zirconium powder, potassium chlorate and sodium chlorate with nitrocellulose binder applied to lead wires 11, 12 which are connected by a bridge wire 13. One wire 12 is welded to a support wire 15, sealed into the tube 10 and connected by leads 14 to terminal pins 16 projecting from an insulating cap 17. The other wires 11 are welded to the ring 7 and one of the support wires 8 is connected by a lead 18 to an annular contact 19 surrounding the cap 17. When the vanes are of metal they may be polished to act as reflectors.
