Abstract

737,225. Valves. COMPAGNIE DES FREINS ET SIGNAUX WESTINGHOUSE. June 29, 1953 [July 4, 1952 ; April 18, 1953], No. 18033/53. Class 135. In a rotary plug valve having an actuating spindle provided with a conical surface 11 co-operating with a conical seating surface in the valve casing, the closure members or cheeks 3 constituting the plug are pressed into sealing engagement with the casing by two cones or wedges 13, 15 of which the wedge 13 is non- rotatable with respect to the cone 11, and resilient means 16 urges the two wedges towards each other. Springs may be located between the cones 11, 13 and between the cheeks 3. In modifications, only one cheek 3 is provided, the passages 25, 26 are of trapezoidal section, and the valve is a three-way device with the cheeks set at an angle to one another.
