Abstract
737,069. Feeding metal sheets. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA METALLVERKEN. Nov. 27, 1953 [Nov. 28, 1952], No. 33051/53. Class 100 (1). Sheet-separators.-Metal sheets are separated from a pile 47 by means of a reciprocating carriage having at least one pair of feed rolls 19, 20 therein and a set of fingers or bars 31, carrying a knife-edge 32, adjustably mounted thereon, such that as the carriage moves toward the pile the edge 32 enters the pile below the top sheet 46, and this sheet is caused to enter the bight of the feed rolls 19, 20. The roll 20, which is constantly rotated by a motor, is lowered towards the roll 19, and the sheet 46 is fed over a table 40 which is secured to the carriage. The operator lifts up the front edge of the top sheet to allow the knife-edge 32 to be inserted into the pile. The carriage comprises two horizontal beams 3, a rear beam 4, two uprights 5, two struts 6, and a cross-beam 7, and sets of wheels 8, 9 on the beams 3 engage, respectively, the lower and upper flanges of a fixed frame 1. In addition, rollers 10 engage the webs of the frame 1 to prevent side-play between the carriage and frame. A nut 11 on the carriage engages a lead-screw 12 which is driven by a reversible motor 16 to cause reciprocation of the carriage. A frame 18 on the carriage carries the two rolls 19, 20, the roll 20 being movable toward and away from the roll 19 by known means, such as a hydraulic piston and cylinder device, and being driven through chain and sprocket gear, and worm gearing 25, by a motor 23. The fingers or bars 31 are pivoted at 22 to the frame 18. Attached to each end finger 31 is one end of a cable 33 which is coiled on a wheel secured to a cross-shaft which can be rotated by a hand-wheel 36 to adjust the slope of the fingers 31. The table 40 is hooked at one end 41 on the carriage, and at the other end has rollers 41 which rest on a fixed table 43. More than one sheet can be separated at each operation.
