In a motor vehicle having two rear driving axles of the type in which each axle is driven by a distinct shaft and the shaft for driving the hindmost rear axle is supported in an intermediate bearing housing mounted on the foremost rear axle casing, the said housing encloses a declutching device for the drive to the hindmost rear axle. The driving shaft c, Fig. 1, for the rearmost axle b, is offset to one side of the driving shaft c, of the foremost axle a, and includes two cordan joints b 1 , b 2 . A ball-bearing housing, Fig. 2, mounted on the foremost axle a in place of the customary intermediate bearing for the driving shaft c, is located between the joints b 1 , b 2 and encloses two aligned shafts d, e, each connected with one joint. Slidable on the shaft e is a pinion f which can engage internal teeth on a wheel g integral with the shaft d. The pinion f is moved into and out of engagement with the wheel g by a fork h secured to a plate h 1 slidable in guides h 1 . The plate h is movable by a lever i operated by a cable i 1 against the action of a spring f which tends to disengage the clutch device f, g. Radius links connect the two axle casings to a non-rotatable sleeve cs enclosing a shaft c2 which connects the cordon joint b 2 to the bevel gear in the rear axle b.
