Abstract

736,701. Core constructions; commutating poles. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Oct. 2, 1953 [Oct. 3, 1952], No. 24844/52. Class 35. A salient pole field system, i.e. a rotor or a stator, for a rotary dynamo-electric machine comprises, in the D.C. motor stator shown, a structure 10 supporting a plurality of laminated "C" type cores 11 spaced circumferentially around the axis of rotation and arranged so that the core end portions 11b project towards said axis, the adjacent core end portions of each pair of adjacent cores constituting a salient pole of the system and having disposed thereabout an exciting coil 14. In Fig. 2 (not shown) there is disclosed an alternator rotor wherein the core end portions project away from the said axis. The "C" type cores are defined as a pack of laminations bent normal to the plane of the laminations to an approximate " C " shape, and the tips 15 of the core end portions 11b are splayed to secure the coils and to increase the length of the pole arc; they are formed of grain-orientated core-plate, and may be held together by riveting, or by a resin bond. The stator may have between adjacent salient poles radially extending interpoles 12 bearing coils 16 and secured to the structure 10 by a plurality of axially spaced bolts 13 by which the cores 11 also are secured.
