Abstract

Solid porous substances are continuously formed from electrically conductive aqueous dispersions of natural or synthetic rubber capable of being formed into a heat-settable froth by frothing such a dispersion and introducing it into a shaping device the surface of which is in part electrically conductive and made of non-porous metals or non-porous non-metals conducting in the metallic manner the froth-shaping surfaces of the shaping device being in direct contact with the froth, passing an alternating electric current which has a frequency sufficiently high to avoid polarization effects at the electrode surfaces and then heating and gelling the froth. The electrodes may be made from tin, stainless steel or graphite. Specifications 618,604 and 626,050 are referred to.
