Abstract

735,958. Making boxes. ARNOLD, J. C. (Pneumatic Scale Corporation, Ltd.). April 27, 1953, No. 11639/53. Class 18. [Also in Group XV] In a machine for forming windowed carton blanks (see Group XV) means are also provided for forming the windowed blanks into cartons, including means for transferring the blank from a conveyer to a forming block and means for wrapping the blank about the block to form a container. The carton blank having passed through an adhesive applying station 26, Fig. 1, for applying adhesive bands 28, 30, 32, Fig. 2, for sealing the carton, is gripped by discharge rollers 224, 226 and transferred from the conveyer 20 onto an elevating platform 228 beneath one forming block 10 of a number of radially extending blocks intermittently rotated about a central shaft 14. The blank is advanced along the platform 228 to present its leading edge against stop members 229 by cam-operated pusher fingers 233. The elevating platform 228 is then raised until it engages the bottom of the block 10 and simultaneously vertically reciprocal plates 248 are raised and continue upwardly to fold the side portions of the blank against the sides of the block. These side portions are then folded over into overlapping relation by a pair of curved and rockingly mounted folder plates 252, 254, and a presser member 256 then presses these parts together to form a tubular carton. The forming block is then moved to a succeeding station where the extended bottom flaps are folded over and adhesively secured.
