Abstract

735,061. Ammunition cartridges. GHEZZI, R. Sept. 23, 1952, No. 23793/52. Class 9(1). A sporting cartridge has a body 1 of thermosetting plastic material having a thickened powder chamber in the base of which is an opening 3 to receive a percussion cap. The walls of this opening are extended through a boss 6 within the cartridge so that ignition of the propellant takes place within the charge. Strengthening ribs 4 extend from a shoulder 5 to the central boss 6. On the shoulder 5 above the charge 8 is placed a resinimpregnated cardboard washer 9, above which is a wad 10 separated from the shot 12 by a second cardboard washer 11. The shot is held in place by a plug 13 of hard and brittle thermo-setting or thermo-plastic material. Lines of fracture are provided in the plug 13 to facilitate its disintegration on firing of the cartridge. The open end of the cartridge has grooves 15 to facilitate crimping on to the plug 13.
