Abstract
734,738. Hand irons. HOOVER, Ltd. Sept. 14, 1953 [Sept. 30, .1952], No. 25281/53. Class 138 (2). In a steam iron having an electrically-heated sole-plate 10 carrying a flash boiler 12, and a reservoir 21 communicating with the boiler through a valve 30, the reservoir has a filling opening 46 provided with a closure 50 which is interconnected with the valve so that the filling opening can only be open when the valve is closed. The closure 50 is mounted to slide between its open and closed positions and actuates the valve 30 to which it is connected by a spring clip 55. The clip 55 is shaped to provide a cam loop 63 which encircles a horizontal cross-piece 44 of a valve stem 31. The stem 31 is bent as shown in Fig. 4, the portions 42, 43 engaging in grooves 41 in the sides of a filling-tube 36. This tube 36 has a top wall 45 on which the closure 50 rides, the lower side of this wall being provided with indentations 61, 62 engaged by a looped portion 60 of the clip 55 in. the closed and open positions respectively of the closure 50. A part 56 of the clip 55 is held in a passage in the closure 50. A projection (not shown) at the rear end of the handle 15 of the iron enables the iron to be supported with the sole-plate vertical. The reservoir can be filled with the sole-plate vertical or horizontal. Specification 726,025 is referred to.
