Abstract
733,995. Separating fibres from non-fibrous materials. JOHNS-MANVILLE CORPORATION. Dec. 10, 1953 [Jan. 2, 1953], No. 34401/53. Class 117. [Also in Groups VIII and IX] In a process for opening and cleaning fibrous material, particularly mineral wool (see Group IX), non-fibrous material is separated from the fibres as a batch of material, deposited into a chamber 16 through a door 14, is suspended in a turbulent stream of gas moving upwardly from oscillating jets 20 and out through a door 24 covered with a filter bag 26. Non-fibrous material falls from the suspension through a screen 18. The amount of gas leaving jets 20 exceeds that escaping through door 24 so that pressure builds up in chamber 16. When a substantial pressure has been built up in chamber 16, a time-controlled mechanism 38 shuts door 24 and opens a fibre outlet trunk 28 ; the release of pressure discharges the fibre suspension rapidly through trunk 28.
