Abstract
733,618. Momentum power-storage apparatus. SCHULER AKT.-GES., L. Feb. 26, 1952 [April 2, 1951], No. 5067/52. Class 10. [Also in Groups V and XXII] The drive of a stamping machine or press includes, in order, in the direction of transmission, a prime mover, a fly-wheel mass and an infinitely variable speed-regulating means, the arrangement being such that the full torque is preserved even at low speeds. A multi-phase electric motor 13 running at constant speed is coupled through a fly-wheel 18 to a D.C. generator 14 which is externally excited by means of an exciter machine 15 on the same shaft. The D.C. generator supplies the reversible press motor 7 which is also excited by the machine 15. A cam mounted on the driving shaft of the press controls the exciter current through a switch-box and thus automatically regulates the direction and speed of the drive. A further infinitely-variable gear and a mechanically-operated clutch may be included between the driving motor and the driving shaft of the press.
