Abstract

732,843. Model eyes. ALLIED INSTRUMENT MANUFACTURERS, Ltd. Oct. 6, 1953 [Oct. 6, 1952], No. 25034/52. Class 97 (1) In a model eye, used especially for training in the use of ophthalmological instruments, in which a hollow casing is shaped at B<SP>1</SP> to represent the retina and is provided with an aperture C covered with a transparent meniscus D representing the cornea and a lens F, the anterior and posterior chambers in front of and behind the lens, respectively, are filled with a transparent solid liquid or gas and the materials used for the meniscus and the lens are such as to scatter the incident light or otherwise to render a beam of light visible when viewed at an angle, e.g. by fluorescence. An iris E may be provided and preferably the anterior and posterior chambers are filled with water or other liquid. The casing may be made in two parts A, B which may be, as shown in Fig. 3, movable relative to one another, the movement being effected by forcing liquid into or out of the posterior chamber, through duct J, by means of a screw plunger M. In another form pressure is exerted on a liquid by squeezing a rubber reservoir. The anterior and posterior chambers may be sealed from one another by a rubber part of the lens mount or, if the same liquid is provided in both the chambers, they may be interconnected.
