Abstract
732,493. Washing coal. BLANTYRE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and ROGERSON, H. W. March 19, 1954 [Dec. 27, 1952], No. 32801/52. Class 82 (2). A coal-washing jig has an electrically operated valve 9 which is energized when the water level in tube 10 is sufficiently high to connect electrodes 12 and which opens the entry to an air-lock chamber 6. As a result the pulsations of the water are increased in amplitude and the shale discharge rate increases. When the shale bed has dropped to a normal level the pressure of water under the bed falls and thus the water level in the tube falls to break the circuit to the valve. An orific plate 11 or flapvalve may be fitted at the bottom of tube 10 to dampen the water movement.
