Abstract

731,381. Yarns of fibres bonded by adhesive. ABERFOYLE MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 3, 1952 [Sept. 11, 1951 ; Oct. 2, 1951], No. 22164/52. Class 120(3). Apparatus for producing fibrous strands utilisible as textile yarns comprises means for continuously applying fluent adhesive in strip or sheet form to a supporting surface, means for applying an excess of fibres to the strip or sheet, means for setting the adhesive and means for removing the excess non-adhering fibres. The apparatus may be as described in Specification 731,380 or the rotating drum employed in these prior disclosures may be modified by the provision of spaced shallow circumferential grooves that pick up adhesive from a trough and, after excess adhesive has been scraped away, have fibres pressed into them. Another form of apparatus consists of an endless belt 15e driven by pulleys 55, 56 and on which a mat M<SP>1</SP> of fibres is delivered. Laterally-spaced nozzles 17e deposit strips of adhesive on the mat M<SP>1</SP>, a further mat M of fibres is desposited on the mat M<SP>1</SP> and pressure is applied by a roller 23e. Setting of the adhesive is carried out by means 25e and excess fibres are removed by brushes 26e, 58 and suction members 28e, 60.
