Abstract
731,299. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Sept. 8, 1953 [Dec. 2, 1952], No. 30557/52. Class 35. Rectangular conductors forming rotor end windings have longitudinal cooling ducts and have apertures in their side (radial) portions communicating with the longitudinal ducts; and the latter may or may not extend throughout the slot conductor portions. As shown, the conductors comprise pairs of channel members providing ducts 3 throughout their lengths and in the end winding portions recesses 11 are cut in the sides of the conductors communicating with ducts 3. Gas such as hydrogen enters by recesses 11 and flows through the end windings into the slot portions whence it can escape outwards to the airgap through radial holes 10 made at intervals in the conductors and slot wedges 5. Axial ducts may also be provided at the bottom of the conductor slots and the gas in them may flow only into the conductor slots near the centre (axially) of the rotor. Radial passages 17 may be provided at intervals in the end windings and these may or may not coincide with the recesses 11.
