Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0729976/IV (b)/1> wherein Z is oxygen or sulphur, R6 is hydrogen or alkyl and R2 is hydrogen, acyl, aroyl, alkyl or aralkyl, and their salts. They are prepared by reducing a compound of the formula <FORM:0729976/IV (b)/2> to convert the cyano group into the aminomethyl group, and if desired, forming a salt with an inorganic or organic acid. When R2 in the starting material is hydrogen, the reduction product may be treated with an acyl or aroyl halide or anhydride or with a hydrohalide ester of an alkanol or aralkanol to replace the hydrogen by an acyl, aroyl, alkyl or aralkyl radical. Conversely these radicals may be replaced by hydrogen by hydrolysis. The examples describe the preparation of (1) the dihydrochloride of 2-hydroxy-4-amino-5-aminomethyl pyrimidine; (2) 4-amino-5-aminomethyl - 2 - benzylmercapto - pyrimidine; (3) 2 - (naphthyl - (11) - methyl) - mercapto - 4-amino - 5 - amino - methyl - pyrimidine; (4) 4 - amino - 5 - aminomethyl - 6 - methyl - 2-benzylmercapto - pyrimidine; (5) 4 - amino - 2-methoxy - 5 - aminomethyl - pyrimidine; (6) 2 - benzylmercapto - 4 - amino - 5 - aminomethyl-pyrimidine.
