Abstract

728,894. Electric selectors. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. April 10, 1952 [April 12, 1951], No. 8535/61. Class 40 (4). An electromagnetic relay comprises a magnet which rotates a member to move a series of operating members to engage actuating members one by one so that successive energizations of the magnet operate the contact sets in turn through the said actuating members. Five stacks of contact sets 10, 12 are arranged in line over a magnet 15, as described in Specification 728,892. Successive operations of the magnet rock armature 16 and its associated link mechanism, upward movement of spring arm 33 being limited by a stop 36 so that pawl 32 drives a ratchet wheel 24 counter-clockwise. Pins 26, 27 on the ratchet wheel engage teeth 30a, 31a on spring-pressed plates 19, 20 to position projections such as 19a, 20a successively beneath members 13 so that upward movement of the plates 19, 20 at the succeeding operation of the magnet lifts the selected member 13 to operate the associated stack of contacts. The plate mechanism is replaced in Pig. 5 by cams 44 on a shaft driven by a gyral wheel 43 (also Fig. 6, not shown). The cams are replaced in Fig. 8 by studs 56 passing through the shaft. The studs are assembled in the hollow shaft with intermediate retaining plugs 57. The shaft is driven by a pawl and ratchet device (Fig. 7, not shown) and accurately positioned by engagement of an operating bar 52 with slots in an indexing wheel 60 (also Fig. 9, not shown).
