Abstract

728,624. Chain hoist or winches. PUTZER, H. April 15, 1953 [April 24, 1952], No. 10357/53. Class 78 (5). The winch (or load chain) shaft 1 is driven by a hand lever which rotates ratchet 6, the ratchet having a threaded connection with the shaft sc that it may engage either friction disc 11 to drive the winch or friction ring 2 to free the winch. As shown, when the winch is freed, ratchet 6 moves along the shaft till ring 2 is pressed against collar 3 pinned to shaft 1, and, in the other direction, the ratchet 6 moves along the shaft to press disc 11 against brake disc 10 so that the winch is driven, ratchet 12 engaging a pawl (not shown) to prevent back movement.
