Abstract

725,849. Valve generating circuits. SIERRA ELECTRONIC CORPORATION. March 31, 1953 [April 15, 1952], No. 8969/53. Classes 40 (5) and 40 (6). A crystal-controlled oscillator has a negative capacitance in shunt with the crystal to alter the frequency of oscillation. The oscillator shown comprises a cathode coupled pair of valves 24, 26 having a crystal 11 connected to one grid. The negative capacitance comprises a two-valve amplifier 22, 21 having a voltage fed back to the grid of valve 22 through a 90 degrees phase shifter 32, 33. Varying the gain of this amplifier as by varying the grid voltage of the valve 22 varies the magnitude of the negative capacitance and thus the frequency of the oscillator. The variation may be effected by a modulating voltage from a source 63 or by a key 57 which is connected to two voltage sources to produce frequency shift keying.
